Why do Iranian women clip their hair in dissent ?

Iranian women have protested following the death of a 22-year-old woman detained by police for allegedly breaching hijab laws. According to reports, Iranian security forces have murdered at least three protesters.
Women are shown waving, lighting their hijabs on fire, and cutting their hair in defiant acts of protest in videos going viral on social media.
Mahsa Amini, age 22, passed away in a hospital on September 16 after having a heart arrest after being detained.
Iran’s morality police detained Amini on September 13 in the nation’s capital Tehran for allegedly disobeying the law mandating that women cover their arms and legs with loose clothing and their hair with a headscarf.
There have been allegations that police beat Amini, which they have refuted. She had a sudden heart attack, according to the police.
Authorities say they are looking into the event in the meanwhile.
