What is Indian Energy Exchange?

IEX is an Indian electronic system-based power that trades exchange and is regulated by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). On June 27, 2008, the Indian energy exchange started its operation, it pioneered the growth of power trading in the nation of India and provides a platform of electronic to the various contestants in the power market, comprising state electricity boards, producers of power, power traders and open access consumers ( both commercially and industrially).

One of the two operational power exchanges in India. IEX is one of them. Since its incorporation, IEX has held an influential market share. A day ahead market based on closed auctions with double-sided bidding and uniform pricing the IEX operates. IEX has over 3800 Registered clients, over 300 private generators, and more than 3300 industrial electricity consumers.

Promoters

Formerly known as Financial Technologies India Limited (63 moon technologies ltd.) made an impulsive thrust into India’s power sector by launching an Indian energy exchange with the power trading corporation of India limited.

To magnify the unexplored potential of the Indian power market and abridge the demand-supply gap was the aim of the promoters.

On June 9 in the year of 2008 since its growth, the IEX had recorded 37.4 million transactions and on the same month, the electricity price on the exchange hit a record low of 13 paisa/ KWh.

Indian Gas Exchange (IGX)

A wholly-owned subsidiary of IEX, it involves in trading spot and forward contracts of gas.

Shareholding

On 10 March 2021, the shareholding of IGX is 26% on the national stock exchange of India, 5% for oil and Natural Gas Corporation, 5% for Adani gas, 5% for torrent gas, 5% for GAIL and rest for the Indian Energy exchange.
