After Jason Roy got out cheaply for 1 run, it was D Malan & P. Salt who took the charge of opposition bowlers. They were hammering every ball that was bowled to them. First Salt made a fiery century before getting out on 93-ball 122. He smashed 14 fours & 3 sixes in his impressive innings. LV Beek took his wicket.
Then Jos Buttler joined the party. He was in some mood today. It seemed he was just practising big hits. While Buttler was going all-out attacking, Malan took his time to get to his maiden ODI hundred. His innings of 125 ended on the 109th ball he faced. He got out to P Seelaar.
Captain Morgan registered a golden duck in this high-scoring innings. But then came the beast, Liam Livingstone. He, along with Jos Buttler, was only dealing with boundaries. They were playing an ODI game like a T-10 match. Jos Buttler scored his century on 47 balls becoming the second-fastest English centurion in ODIs. Liam went all guns blazing to score the fastest fifty by an English player in ODIs off just 17 deliveries. While Liam hit 6 fours & as many sixes in his 66(22) run innings, Jos Buttler hit 7 fours & 14 huge sixes in his 162(70) run innings. Every batsman was in some mood today.
This was the 3rd instance in ODIs when 3 batsmen in the same innings made hundreds. Previously the South Africa team achieved this feat twice, one against West Indies in Wanderers & other against India in Wankhede. By this, England broke their record of highest team total in One Day Internationals. Previously, 481-6 by England stunned the cricket world against the Aussies in 2018.
