IPL gets 2 new teams: Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group gets Lucknow franchise and CVC gets Ahmedabad franchise

The two new teams Ahmedabad and Lucknow were added to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2022 after Adani Group and Manchester United owners submitted the highest bids in Taj Hotel, Dubai.

On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed Ahmedabad and Lucknow are the new teams for the IPL season 2022 after the CVC Capitals Partners and Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group bid successfully for the franchises in Taj hotel in Dubai.

With a winning bid of Rs, 7090 crores RPSG group chose Lucknow as their home base while for Ahmedabad with a bid of 5625 crores the CVC Capital partners have opted.

On September 21, the BCCI announced that they have decided to extend the buying date for the ITT ( Invitation to Tender) the right to own and to operate one of two proposed new IPL team documents till October 20 and October 5 from the original deadline date.

To acquire the right to own and operate two new franchises the governing council of IPL had issued an Invitation to Tender (ITT). Various interested parties submitted their bids for the new franchises persuaded by the tender process. In Dubai, the bids were submitted by the authorized representatives of the parties that were interested.

“BCCI is pleased is announced the successful bidders.” (After the documentation and other formalities are completed.)

From the year 2022 season onwards as specified in the ITT document the subject to the bidders completing the post-bid formalities. IPL 2022 season, the Indian Cricket Board said in an official release stated the year 2022 season will compromise ten teams and will have 74 matches, where each team will get to play 7 home and 7 away matches.

A windfall in the range of Rs. 10,000 crore but to the surprise of the BCCI, they earned Rs. 12,690 crore from the two new upcoming teams that will be a part in the 2022 IPL season.
