Everything you need to know about National Technology Day

Technology is always improving, and Indians have always made significant contributions to this growth via brilliant innovations. National Technology Day is observed on May 11th to honour the contributions of scientists, researchers, engineers, and others working in the field of science and technology.

It is a day to remind Indians of the country’s technical achievements and India’s accomplishments in science and technology. The Pokhran Nuclear Tests (Operation Shakti) was conducted under the direction of an aerospace engineer and President APJ Abdul Kalam on this day.

The phrase ‘National Technology Day’ was established by then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpayee after the successful test.

Importance and History of National Technology Day 2022

On May 11, 1999, the inaugural National Technology Day was commemorated. On the 11th of May 1998, India conducted three successful nuclear tests at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan as part of Operation Shakti. Following that, on the 13th of May, two additional nuclear tests were carried out under the supervision of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

On May 11, 1999, then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced the country’s important achievement. Since then, the Technology Development Board has honoured scientists and engineers, as well as their technical creations, for their contributions to India’s prosperity.

India was capable of creating thermonuclear weapons and fission bombs on this day in 1998. The day was made much more significant by the flying of India’s first indigenous aircraft, the Hansa-1, It was a small two-seater aircraft designed for reconnaissance, pilot training, and surveillance. and the DRDO’s test of the surface-to-air Trishul Missile The tests were carried out by the (DRDO) as part of India’s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.

It is now used in the Indian airforce and army.

The government decided to name the day National Technology Day in honour of all of these technical achievements. The Ministry of Science and Technology hosts several lectures and workshops on this day. The ministry’s Technology Development Board recognizes technical advancements that have aided in national development and honor people with a National Award for their contributions to science and technology on this day every year. Every year, the Board hosts an event at which the President of India, as the main guest, bestows honours on scientists for their achievements. Engineering institutions around India host events to boost scientific initiatives and spark enthusiasm among students on this day.
