After the assembly and legislative council elections in Uttar Pradesh, now the Election Commission has announced elections for Rajya Sabha seats. Elections for Rajya Sabha seats will be held on June 10.
According to the Election Commission, elections will be held for 57 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states. Uttar Pradesh is very important in the Rajya Sabha seats because 11 seats in UP are falling vacant. The term of these members ends on July 4. The Rajya Sabha is a federal house in which states and union territories are represented.
According to Article 80 of the Constitution, the Rajya Sabha will have a maximum of 250 members. Of these, 12 members are nominated by the President who has experience in the fields of literature, science, art or social service.
Also, there are representatives of 238 member states and union territories. However, at present, there are 245 members in the Rajya Sabha, out of which 233 are representatives of states/union territories.
Elections for Rajya Sabha seats will be held on June 10.
A total of 57 Rajya Sabha seats in 15 states will go to the polls. According to Article 80, the Rajya Sabha will have a maximum of 250 members.
Rajya Sabha is a permanent house which never gets dissolved. The term of a member of the Rajya Sabha is 6 years. The quota of every state is fixed in the Rajya Sabha.
