All you need to know about Internet and its type

Our life has become steadily become Digital in 21 century, and with this pandemic, the heights of digitalization have reached the zenith. Let it be connecting students to teachers, business owners, or e-commerce platforms to customers or doctors to patients there seems to be no stop to the possibilities to the wonders that digitalization can do

But where do you think all this started

And what happens to be the base of this digital world?

Yes, Internet

The Internet can be explained as a connectivity network between various computers OR devices, Through which data is transferred anywhere in the world (now even out of the world ).

To understand the typical world of the Internet, an iceberg would be specific but a classic example.

Let’s compare that with the three layers that make up the Internet

l Surface web

l Deep web

l dark web

Deep dark, pretty scary, right?

but trust me, it’s all based on a small concept of indexing

So before we dig into our layers of the internet iceberg

Let’s see what indexing is

Indexing, haven’t we all heard it out somewhere, yaa? You are right. It’s the index part of the books where every chapter is marked based on a page; similarly, the cybersecurity index is also the same in simple terms.

Let’s imagine a considerable self, not the normal one we have in our home lets imagine it to be some 50 km on all sides, a super gigantic imaginary self.

The indexing part would be the labelling of the self, and the search engines would be you standing on a sliding ladder searching for something.

And inc case you

Can find out quickly with the help of the labels it is can be classified as Surface we

in case some parts of selves have locks, and only some person can open them, that’s Deep web

And let’s imagine some locker on deep web side is used for top-secret god knows what is in the stuff then that’s the dark web

And this process of searching search engine performs every time we search something is called crawling.

I am so climbing back to the iceberg.

To start with the first layer or the surface web.

This is the outermost visible part that is available to the public’s view in almost any part of the world.

This is possibly the web we all know.

Approximately the surface web accounts for only 4 to 9 per cent of the entire Internet

So coming again compared with the iceberg, it happens to the small part that is visible outside the water

if you search some website on standard search engines like google or bing and you get the result, that’s because it is indexed in the search engine, and thus it can bring up the desired page

What if it didn’t? That’s obvious, right.

Yes, it is not yet indexed, and thus regular web browsers won’t be able to find it.

So that brings us to the following two parts

The deep and dark web

Basically, from the above context, we know that the deep web and dark web are not the same.

So what the difference

Let’s start with deep web

The term deep web refers to all the part of the Internet that is not indexed, and thus, crawlers will not be able to return with the data that you search for

So is that not accessible to us? not exactly it is accessible, but we need a specific encrypted key or personalized link for accessing it.

So what will this be? Some top-secret things maybe and not be precise. It can be better described as a personalized part of the web for particular users that login credentials can open.

Moving on to the deep web

This is technically the deeper part of the dark web, making it usable for users only who knows where to do

This is majorly the illegal part of the Internet along with top secrets of governmental journalism etc.

“The Internet is the world’s largest library. It’s just that all the books are on the floor.”
