Heart-warming fan’s true tribute to General Rawat

Rajendran Vadakkepadath sketches the late CDS in his trademark vogue.

A fan of General Rawat, Mr. Rajendran had been mulling the thought of sketching the overall in his trademark plantain leaf, an inventive method that might take several days.

With a sunken heart, Mr. Rajendran went out of his house and plucked a fully grown leaf of an Indian banyan next to his house. His creative fingers didn’t rest till he gave life to his military hero on the leaf.

It was the leaf artist’s humble tribute to the late General. Last year, once soccer legend Diego Maradona died in Nov, Mr. Rajendran had paid his distinctive tribute by carving Maradona’s face on a banyan leaf.

Mr. Rajendran uses the creative genre referred to as ‘leaf-cutting art’ to pay court to his heroes by etching their faces on the leaf. If control against the sky or any light, the face of the person he has carved is visible on the leaf.

Mr. Rajendran has won international attention through his distinctive leaf painting on dried banana leaves. “I had carved the face of Maradona once the legend died on Nov twenty-five last year. He was our superhero. And now, the General’s death is our nation’s loss,” he said, holding the banyan leaf against a bright sky.

Mr. Rajendran aforesaid that he selected the banyan leaf as a result of the elliptical tree leaf was thick, large, glossy, and would last longer than alternative leaves.

He had taken four hours to carve Maradona on the leaf. However, it took but 2 hours for him to offer life to General Rawat on the banyan leaf. He aforesaid he would preserve the work by framing it.
